Did you know that Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, is celebrated by hundreds of millions of Christians worldwide? The actual reason for "Mardi Gras," though not as well know, Ash Wednesday begins a 40 day reflection by Christians upon the Passion History of Jesus leading up to Holy Week which contains Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. Three days later, of course, on Easter Sunday, we celebrate Jesus' Resurrection from the dead. Here at Palisades Lutheran, Ash Wednesday - observed this year on February 22 - begins a series of Wednesday evening gatherings that begin at 6:30 p.m. with a simple supper of soup, salad and bread, and then continue in our candle-lit sanctuary as we focus our hearts and minds on who Jesus is and what he does for us. These evening services include beautiful music, meaningful prayers, and a weekly participation in the Holy Eucharist. Everyone is welcome! |
